Prelude

Welcome & Greeting Rev. Matt Franks

Welcome to Worship with us here at Castle Rock FUMC. Our Mission is to share the light and love of God within our community and beyond. One of the ways we live into our mission is that in worship we connect to one another and to how God is speaking to us through, prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Let us connect to one another by greeting each other.

Hymn UMH 454 Open My Eyes, That I May See

1. Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me; place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free. Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see. Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

2. Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth thou sendest clear; and while the wavenotes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear. Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see. Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

3. Open my mouth, and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere; open my heart and let me prepare love with thy children thus to share. Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see. Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Call To Worship

Leader: In Jesus Christ, a light of hope shines brightly in all the world.

People: May the light of Jesus Christ shine brightly upon us.

Leader: May this light nourish and guide us.

People: May Christ’s light show us our pathway to new life. Let us now worship in the joy of Christ’s light shining brightly for us.

Music: What's In A Name sung by Linda and Nancy

We Pray Together

Prayers for The People Liturgist All: O holy God, great Physician, Lover of all people, we are astonished by your amazing grace. We are captivated by your power and awed by your mercy. In the heart of our hearts, we long to know you more deeply, to touch even the fringes of your cloak, and to know peace and healing. We strain our ears to hear you call us daughters and sons, like so many before us. We pray for the faith that can make us whole.

And we pray for those in need of your healing this day:

For the sick, for the injured and hospitalized, and for those whose illness has isolated them from their community. Give them a spirit of healing and hope ....

For the outcast, and for those whom we have cast out through our action, or inaction. Shine a light on our prejudices, soften our hardened hearts, and transform us for loving service toward every Christ we meet ....

For those who mourn and weep. Let them stand firm in your promises, buoyed by your strength and care. Give them the comfort and assurance that nothing can separate them from your love.

Loving God, we pray for healing and hope to reign in this world. Where there is conflict and war, let there be peace. Where there is hunger and poverty, let there be abundance. Where there is distress and despair, let there be light, warm and unquenchable.

We pray to hear your words: “Follow me,” for they are words not only of discipleship, but of assurance — that as your disciples, we will never be forsaken. You will lead us, all of us, into unexpected places. Give us the courage to follow you each day of our lives. Amen.

The Pastoral Prayer Rev. Matt Franks

The Lord’s Prayer found in the UMH 895

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn No. 375 There Is A Balm In Gilead

1. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. Sometimes I feel discouraged and think my work's in vain. But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.

3. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. If you can't preach like Peter, if you can't pray like Paul, just tell the love of Jesus, and say he died for all.

3. Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way, wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Undistracted: Capture Your Purpose. Rediscover Your Joy. By Bob Goff

In Person Sessions, Mondays July 24, 2023 to September 18 2023 6:30PM to 8:30

Zoom Sessions, Fridays July 28 2023 to September 22 2023; 6:30PM to 8:30PM

Rev. Sarah will plan on having a signup sheet ready for the welcome desk on my first Sunday back (July 2).

Through his pithy and inspiring storytelling that has endeared him to millions, New York Times bestselling author Bob Goff reassures readers that they can harness today's distractions, follow Jesus' example, and find focus, purpose, and joy.

You probably know what it's like to be driving down the road when you suddenly feel the vibration and hear the guh-guh-guh-guh-guh of the rumble strips--those grooves in the pavement--warning you that you've drifted out of your lane. You didn't mean to get distracted. You only took your eyes off the road for a moment, but you drifted off course. And that's a lot like life, isn't it?

In Undistracted, Bob Goff lovingly yanks us back in our lane and helps us get back on track so we can live our lives with real purpose and joy. Bob's inspiring and entertaining stories show us what it looks like to live a beautiful and purposeful life rather than drifting aimlessly from one season to the next. He encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus and harness life's distractions so we can find joy despite our circumstances.

The Bell Choir, under the leadership of Nancy Docksey, is adding names to those interested in being a part of this music ministry. If you haven’t yet signed up, contact her in person at the 10:45 service welcome time or by phone or text (303-877-9085).

Check the welcome center for directions for signing up for the first time with them. The Safeway Cards are now available. Contact the church office to pick one up.. We have received approximately $250/quarter from Safeway. There is no dollar amount on them this time so folks will just pick up a card and head to Safeway to load the amount they choose to have on it . NOTE: You may use the money you have remaining on the old card, but you will not be able to reload it.
