Easter Cantata “Song of the Shadows” March 30

"Song of the Shadows" is an invitation to contemplate the love and sacrifice of Christ. Tracing in song the last days of the Savior, this deeply moving work offers a meaningful opportunity to worship. Chancel Choir cordially invites anyone who would like to sing with us to come to the first rehearsal Sunday, January 19, immediately following the second service. A light lunch will be provided before rehearsal begins. The more voices, the more moving the cantata. See choir director Nancy Docksey for more information.

Game Night!

Save the date— Thursday, March 6, 6-8 pm— for our youth-sponsored intergenerational game night in Fellowship Hall. Bring you favorite board game and snacks to share.

Prison Ministry

On March 6th, the opportunity to help with the backpack portion of our Prison Ministry begins with donation cards available for pick up.  Mike Vitek notes that 48 backpacks (36 for men and 12 for women) are needed for this mission project benefitting the Douglas County Detentions Center who distribute them.  We purchase backpacks and then fill them with a wide variety of personal items and devotional material. The supplies and monetary donations for the backpacks need to be returned to the Church by Sunday, March 30th.

Contemporary Bible Study

The book chosen is Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World by Henri J. M. Nouwen, who writes: "All I want to say to you is, 'You are the Beloved,' and all I hope is that you can hear these words as spoken to you with all the tenderness and force that love can hold. My only desire is to make these words reverberate in every corner of your being - 'You are the Beloved.’’"

In person runs Monday January 27 2025-Februarys 17 2025 6:30 to 8:00PM;

Zoom session, Fridays to January 31th  to February  21 2025 6:30 to 8:00PM

Tuesday Morning Bible Study

Tuesday Morning Bible Study will begin its study of Adam Hamilton’s Words of Life: Jesus and the Promise of the Ten Commandments Today by Adam Hamilton at 9:30 a in the church library beginning January 7.

Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of “thou-shalt-nots” found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guideposts to help us experience a good and beautiful life. These ten ancient “words” were given to us by a loving God who longed to set safe boundaries, create order out of chaos, help communities live peacefully, and protect us—often from ourselves.

New and used copies can be purchased at Amazon from $7 - $15, similar to copies available through Cokebury and Thriftbooks.

Soup-er Bowl Time!

Pick up a bag on February 5 for the canned goods and other nonperishables you would like to donate to the Food Drive for Help & Hope. Bring the filled bag(s) back in on February 12 and place them under the NFC or AFC team you want to win the Super Bowl on February 12.  Can we reach a 1000 pound goal of donated goods?  Let’s make that our “field goal” of the day.

Youth/Parent Meeting

Sunday, February 2nd, is the first official informational meeting for this Summer's Mission Trip downstairs in the youth area between services. This year we will be traveling to Oklahoma to work with Native American communities on various projects and local needs. We'll lock in dates for the trip as well as talk over costs. There will still be a financial commitment for each student to secure a spot. If you cannot attend the February 2nd meeting, but would still like your student to go on this year's trip, please let Josh Hay (josh.hay@gmail.com) know so he can share necessary information with you.

We have been asked how can we help with the Wildfires in California.

You can help with prayer: pray for God to provide safety, comfort and hope.

You can also give to our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) https://advance.umcmission.org/p-620-umcor-us-disaster...
