If you can help with distributing the bottles before and during the parade, please arrive downtown by 8 a.m. Be sure to wear your Sesquicentennial Teeshirt. Thanks to everyone who helped place stickers on the bottles.
Birthday Bags:
In honor of all the special birthdays of our congregation, we are hosting a birthday bag drive for Help & Hope.
Help & Hope has a closet full of “birthday bags” that include birthday cake mix, icing, candles and an unwrapped gift. Families can come in and pick from these for their own children or if their kids get invited to a party and they can’t afford a gift, they can come in and pick a gift.
Spreading Gods love through loving and serving our neighbors in need! The birthday bags for us to pick up will be available from 7/14-7/28. Please pick up a bag, purchase the items on the “birthday bag” recipe card and return by 7/28.
Sesquicentennial Star Painting Project: Opportunities to participate in painting stars for the season of Advent and for the November Star Lighting Event in downtown Castle Rock will continue throughout the next few months. We hope to have 500+ stars featuring our church logo on one side and a bright color on the other. These stars will serve as a commemorative token of our Sesquicentennial Year.
Tuesday Morning Bible Study: will not meet in July, but will resume their study of Romans (picking up chapter 13) on August 6. New folks or drop-ins are always welcome.

Earlier this month, the delegates to the Western Jurisdiction Conference prayed, discussed, and discerned episcopal leadership for our jurisdiction. Two new bishops were elected and consecrated: Bishop Stoneking and Bishop Sandy Olewine. In the words of Bishop Karen, “We give thanks to God for the mantel of leadership these two individuals have taken on.”
Bishop Stoneking has served churches in Kansas and California. In addition, she has been a campus minister at UC Davis, was the Executive Director of the Fellowship for Reconciliation, served as a District Superintendent as well as the Director of Ministry Innovation and Congregational Development in the California-Nevada Annual Conference, and most recently was appointed as the Associate Professor of United Methodist Studies and Leadership at Pacific School of Religion. She holds a PhD from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.
She is married to Elizabeth Campi and they have two young adult children, John and Paloma. John is pursuing a PhD in Austin, Texas and Paloma is a rising freshman in college. The bishop also smiles when she speaks about the family’s two dogs, “Rusty” and “Joni Mitchell” as well as her cat, “Stevie Nicks”. As a family, they love live music, hiking and [good news for the Mountain Sky] traveling. Personally, for Bishop Stoneking, pleasure is found in reading and in her words, “work”.
Our new bishop has ties to our conference. She credits her childhood friend, who lives in Colorado, as one of the people she looks forward to spending quality time with and anticipates participating in activities she’s watched from afar — our conference’s passion for a mission-focused, active community.
We asked Bishop Stoneking for one thing she appreciates about the Mountain Sky and she said, “I see and feel your abundance of love.”
The bishop will begin her duties officially on September 1, 2024.
