Welcome and Greeting

Welcome to Worship with us here at Castle Rock FUMC. Our Mission is to share the light and love of God within our community and beyond. One of the ways we live into our mission is that in worship we connect to one another and to how God is speaking to us through, prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Let us connect to one another by greeting each other.

Scripture Reading Response

Pastor: The Scriptures of Faith for the people of faith. All Thanks be to God, Amen.

Sermon Title: "Amazing Grace: The Grace of God”

Given by Rev. Matt Franks

Hymn of Response: Amazing Grace UMH 378

1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost,

but now am found; was blind, but now I see.

6. When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to

sing God's praise than when we'd first begun.

Service of Holy Communion

Adapted from A Communion Prayer for Independence Weekend by Dr. Marcia McFee!

Invitation to The Lord’s Table

Prayer of Confession

Leader: For all the ways we colonize each other with expectations, beliefs, judgments, and our own fear…

All: God, in your mercy, forgive and transform.

Leader: For all the ways we squander right relationship grabbing to “have” more while some go without…

All: God, in your mercy, forgive and transform.

Leader For all the ways we abuse our freedom

engaging hateful speech towards those not on “our” side…

All: God, in your mercy, forgive and transform.

Leader: For all the ways we deny equality deeming some “in” and others “out…”

All: God, in your mercy, forgive and transform.

Words of Assurance

Leader: Freedom, O freedom! O freedom, freedom is coming, O yes I know… Jesus said, “I have come to set the prisoner free.” No matter what binds you this day, freedom is yours through new life in Christ. In the name of him who came to loose the chains, you are forgiven.

All: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven, set free. Glory to God! Amen!!

The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: The Liberating God be with you!!

All: And also with you!

Leader: Lift up your hearts with joy!!

All: We lift them up to God!!

Leader: Let us give praise to the Author of Freedom!!

All: It is right to give our thanks and praise!

Leader: It is right, and a good and holy thing! to give our praise to you this day, Liberator of all Humankind. You unleashed your creative power and a world blossomed. You bestowed upon every living thing life and breath, color and movement. No matter how many battles we wage within and between ourselves and against you, your promise, vision, and gift of peace and abundance continues.

And so we lift up our voices in celebration of You!!

All: Holy, holy, holy are You!

We join all the prophets and saints!

All: Heaven and earth are full of your glory!

We join the parade of justice!!

All: Blessed are they who come in the name of the Lord!!

Leader: We add our cries and exclamations!!

All: Hosanna in the highest!

Leader: Holy are you and blessed is your son, Jesus. To those who were imprisoned by status, law, illness, poverty, gender, age, disease, he said, “your belief has set you free. You are a child of God.”

He invited disciples, friends and strangers alike to his tables.

(Life The Bread)

He proclaimed God’s grace to all with whom he broke bread.

(Lift The Cup)

He proclaimed God’s love to all with whom he shared the cup. And he told us to remember:

All: freedom has come, and freedom is coming!

Leader: Holy Spirit, transform this meal and transform this body so that we might be free to love without condition,

invite without hesitance, go without reservation,

and proclaim your freedom to all the world Let the people say,

All: “Amen!”

Come and Receive Holy Communion

Closing Words

During this time, we invite you to stand as you are able

and hold hands with your neighbor as you feel comfortable.

Quote of the Week

"Grace is the quiet strength that allows us to heal, to forgive, and to move forward with hope." - Sonia Sotomayor

Weekly Prayer

O Great Spirit, whose breath gives life to the world, and whose voice is heard in the soft breeze; We need your strength and wisdom. Cause us to walk in beauty. Give us the eyes ever to behold the red and purple sunset. Make us wise so that we may understand what you have taught us. Help us learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Make us always ready to come to you with clean hands and steady eyes, so when life fades, like the fading sunset, our hearts come to you without shame. Amen – Traditional Native American Prayer, UMCH #329
